The town of Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu Valley is rapidly becoming a popular alternative to Kathmandu itself. This is in part thanks to its colorful festivals, its own Durbar Square - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But the main charm of Bhaktapur is its friendly small-town atmosphere and local charm.
