Long a favorite for its treks into the HImalayas and Annapurna mountain trips, Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur offer stunning architecture, now listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. To date there is Kathmandu Images, Bhaktapur Images, Patan Images and Pokhara Images. I have added all Nagarkot Images into the Bhaktapur gallery.
Kathmandu is a fascinating blend of religions, cultures and people. Without a doubt, the center of all the action is Durbar Square but other pockets of interest are scattered around town such as the Tibetan village surrounding Bodhnath or Swambhunath Temple in the outskirts of town.
The town of Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu Valley is rapidly becoming a popular alternative to Kathmandu itself. This is in part thanks to its colorful festivals, its own Durbar Square - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But the main charm of Bhaktapur is its friendly small-town atmosphere and local charm.
Located only five kilometers south of Kathmandu, Patan is one of 3 royal cities in the valley. The others are Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. Patan is a great destination for connoisseurs of fine arts as it is a treasure trove of wood and stone carvings, metal statues, ornate architecture including dozens of Buddhist and Hindu temples, and over a thousand monuments. The city is known for its rich tradition of arts and handicrafts and as the birthplace of master craftsmen and artists. Patan was recently designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Pokhara is the third largest city in Nepal and the starting point, or base camp, for most of the treks in the Annapurna area. It is considered by many visitors to Nepal to be a much more desirable base than Kathmandu, thanks to its proximity to the Himalayas, treks, and its location around Lake Fewa.
