Located only five kilometers south of Kathmandu, Patan is one of 3 royal cities in the valley. The others are Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. Patan is a great destination for connoisseurs of fine arts as it is a treasure trove of wood and stone carvings, metal statues, ornate architecture including dozens of Buddhist and Hindu temples, and over a thousand monuments. The city is known for its rich tradition of arts and handicrafts and as the birthplace of master craftsmen and artists. Patan was recently designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Pokhara is the third largest city in Nepal and the starting point, or base camp, for most of the treks in the Annapurna area. It is considered by many visitors to Nepal to be a much more desirable base than Kathmandu, thanks to its proximity to the Himalayas, treks, and its location around Lake Fewa.
